Patricia Dorn, Loyola University, New Orleans, US
Dr. Patricia Dorn is a professor of Biological Sciences at Loyola University New Orleans. She received her Ph.D. at the University of Maryland and began her work on trypanosomes during her post-doctoral fellowship at Stanford Medical School. She has been teaching and performing research along with 35 undergraduate students over the last 20 years, and has published >30 journal articles, book chapters, and monographs. Her current research focus is on understanding the taxonomy, population genetics, and epidemiological importance of taxa of the major Chagas disease insect vector in Central America, with the ultimate goal of interrupting transmission of this serious disease. She also studies the epidemiology of Chagas in the southern United States including in non-human primates, dogs, and humans and the genetic structure of the main insect vectors.
