Charles D. CriscioneCharles D. Criscione is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology at Texas A&M University. He is a native of New Orleans and obtained a B.S. from Louisiana State University, M.S. from Southeastern Louisiana University, and Ph.D. from Oregon State University. He was a postdoctoral scientist at the Texas Biomedical Research Institute before joining the faculty at Texas A&M in 2008. He is a previous recipient of the Ashton Cuckler New Investigator Award from the American Society of Parasitologists. His research centers on the use of population genetics theory and analyses to study the ecology and evolution of metazoan parasites (mostly nematodes and flatworms) of animals. He has interests in linkage mapping, genomics, mating systems, landscape genetics, phylogeography, and cryptic parasite species identification via molecular data. Of special interest is the application of molecular ecological methods to elucidate parasite transmission among hosts (i.e., molecular epidemiology) and studying how parasite life history traits influence the evolutionary potential of parasite populations (i.e., what traits impact parasite inbreeding, effective population size, and population genetic differentiation at multiple scales).
